
COOPERATION
To work in a mostly desert climate area that has undergone a twenty year civil war as the one continuing in Northern Sudan is what forced the project group to take on active and innovative criteria, technically and practically as well as theoretically and ideally, in order to bring forth a profound reflection on the ethical principles that are at the basis of architectural project planning.
All of this meant creating a resonance of cultural and social identity throughout the area in which we worked with its distinct character and spirit, in consideration of the technical and often problematic issues connected to building a cardio-surgery clinical center; while it also meant demonstrating architecture’s role in emphasizing the idea of ‘Rights’ (and especially the Right to health) as a common heritage, without distinction of race, sex, religion or social background. Therefore, before becoming a practical reality, the project became a place and state of mind, a starting point from which rationality’s parameters of are confronted with our ideals.
